The organisers of ‘Sparkle’ – The National Transgender Celebration have announced that their final preparations are now in place for the 4 day event.
Taking place from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th July – the Sparkle aim is to help TG people make new friends and obtain help, support and information on gender issues, whilst having a good old knees up and relaxing in the company of likeminded people. Its a great way to make new friends and celebrate who you are.
This years event sees Sackville Park play host to live entertainment throughout the Saturday afternoon for the very first time. The annual ‘Miss Sparkle’ competition is sure to be a highlight, kicking off at around 5.45pm.
Another highlight is provided by UK Meet who have organised a walk around the village. Chair of Manchester-based Gaydio, John Ryan, leads a gentle walk around Manchester’s famous Canal Street. Participants will hear stories of the city’s past, visit a couple of history-changing bars, and discover how Manchester was at the heart of gay liberation through the 70s. Sit next to Alan Turing, hear about the infamous ‘Quality Street Gang’ and find out how ‘Queer as Folk’ changed gay Manchester forever. An hour-long walk and talk around the compact Village locale with plenty of rest stops is a real must.
