Two members of the LGBT Foundation’s Village Angels team, rescued a man who had fallen into the Rochdale Canal close to the village during the early hours of Sunday 10th May.
Lee Mackintosh, a co-ordinator for the volunteer group, and one of his volunteers, grabbed the man who had been screaming for help as he struggled in the water.
Lee told the canal-st.co.uk website, “He stumbled and tried to break his fall by grabbing hold of a barrier which wasn’t there and he just fell into the canal. We ran over and managed to drag him to the side. He had gone into shock because of the freezing cold water and he was shivering,”
With the help door staff who also helped out, they wrapped him in a blanket and called paramedics who took the man to Manchester Royal Infirmary.
The Village Angels are an @LGBTfdn street safety project who help to keep Manchester’s Gay Village safe and fabulous.
